Used & Refurbished Medical Equipment Marketplace

Save significantly on professionally maintained medical devices from verified sellers — with condition grades, documentation on request and buyer protection on every order.

The used medical equipment market lets hospitals, clinics and practices access professional-grade technology at a fraction of the new price. A well-maintained ultrasound system, patient monitor or surgical table often delivers many more years of reliable clinical service — the key is buying from a verified seller with honest condition grading.

MellMed lists thousands of used and refurbished devices across imaging, monitoring, surgery, laboratory and dental. Every listing carries a condition grade, and payments are protected until your order ships.

What do the condition grades mean?

New: unused, in original packaging. Excellent: fully functional, minimal signs of use. Very good: fully functional, light cosmetic wear. Good: fully functional, visible wear. Fair: functional with limitations described in the listing. For parts: not guaranteed functional, sold for spare parts. The grade is set by the seller and forms part of the purchase contract — if the device arrives in worse condition, you are covered by buyer protection.

What to check before buying used medical devices

Ask for the year of manufacture, operating hours where applicable, service history and safety-check records. Confirm which accessories, probes or modules are included, whether the software licence transfers, and whether the manufacturer still supports the model with parts and service. MellMed's built-in messaging lets you ask the seller all of this before ordering — in writing.

Refurbished vs. used — what's the difference?

Used equipment is sold as-is in its current maintained state. Refurbished equipment has been professionally inspected, worn parts replaced, software updated and the device tested against manufacturer specifications — usually with a warranty. Refurbished commands a higher price but reduces risk for critical-care applications.

Can't find the device you need?

Post a device-wanted request and verified sellers will contact you with offers matching your specification and budget.

FAQ

How much can I save buying used medical equipment?

Savings depend on the device class, manufacturer, age, condition and configuration. Well-maintained used and refurbished equipment can provide significant cost savings compared to purchasing new, with high-demand models from Mindray, GE, Philips or Dräger holding their value better and niche devices often discounted more steeply.

Does used medical equipment come with a warranty?

It depends on the seller. Refurbished devices usually include a dealer warranty of 3–12 months; private-sale used devices may be sold without one. The warranty terms are stated on each listing — and buyer protection covers you if the device doesn't match its description.

Can I buy used medical equipment internationally?

Yes. Sellers on MellMed ship across the EU and worldwide. For cross-border purchases within the EU, VAT-registered buyers can often purchase net of VAT using the reverse-charge mechanism — enter your VAT ID at checkout.

Is it legal to use second-hand medical devices in a clinic?

Yes, provided the device retains its CE marking, is maintained per manufacturer specifications and national operator regulations are followed (e.g. MPBetreibV in Germany). Request maintenance documentation from the seller before buying.
